Just for Kix opens in Hastings
Just for Kix is coming to Hastings next month and is offering dance lessons Monday and Thursday evenings at the Hastings Child Development Center building, 210 W. 19th St.
Brooke Schultz is the director of the Hastings studio - she also teaches dance for Just for Kix at the Farmington location.
"They wanted to get into Hastings," said Schultz. "It is a great market."
She spent part of the summer looking at buildings, including churches. She was contacted about the Child Development Center, where a daycare facility is operated. One of the major attractions of the building is the large gymnasium. Soon after seeing the space, a lease was signed.
Just for Kix prides itself on being an organized, educational and fun dance program. The emphasis is on teamwork, cooperating and running a high-quality program. In the Midwest, there are more than 2,000 Just for Kix locations.
The motto of the program is "Doing your best is more important than being the best."
The first half of the year is preparation season - focusing on basic skills and routines. The second half of the year is the performance season. Generally, four performances are scheduled. The performances will be after December.
The Monday schedule for the Hastings Just for Kix is: Tiny Kix, ages 3 to 5, 6:15 p.m.; Wee Petites, ages kindergarten to first grade, 6:45 p.m.; and Junior Kix, seventh on up, 7:30 p.m. The Thursday class of Wee Kix, for second- and third- graders is at 6:15 p.m.
Schultz describes the dance lessons as "high kick, similar to what the Rockettes do on stage." The movements and routines are designed and choreographed to be age appropriate.
The classes begin the week of Sept. 12 and will continue for 32 weeks through April.
Schultz has been involved in dance and Just for Kix for 16 years. Her experiences include being the dance coach at Hawley High School and Roseville High School. She has also been a judge for the Minnesota State High School League competitions. She has been with the Farmington Just for Kix program for two years.
Registration is under way and continues all year, Schultz said.
