Join the SEAS tailgate sale May 15
Don't use your garage. Use the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church parking lot to hold a sale.
The Faith Formation program of the church is sponsoring a tailgate sale from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 15, in the church parking lot, 2035 W. 15th St. Interested people can rent two parking spaces for $15 and sell their items (just about anything but food and beverages), either from their vehicle, tables, or a tent. Participants keep the proceeds from their sales.
At the conclusion of the sale, a Courage Center truck will be on site to take any acceptable unsold items people wish to donate. The items are tax deductible.
"We wanted to do something for the community," said Seton Director of Faith Formation Jill Skaife. "Then if we could raise some funds for our Faith Formation groups, that would be good, too."
She was familiar with tailgate sales in other parishes and thought this would be something fun and different here.
As part of the tailgate sale, the SEAS youth group will be selling food and beverages as a fundraiser for their mission trip to Montana this summer. Members are also looking for another donations, according to Michelle Hess, conformation and youth director.
"We are also looking for people who want to be a sponsor for one of our members," she said. "They can make a donation for someone they know or have us pick the person."
It will cost each of the 16 trip participants $500 for the trip.
The funds raised from the space rentals will be used for Faith Formation tuition assistance, snacks and other program costs.
After April 20, the rental fee increases to $20. The deadline to register is May 9. Registration forms are available in the church office. The sale will be held rain or shine.
Sellers must provide their own tables and chairs, tents, and their own change for customers.
The Courage Center truck will accept many items including antiques, artificial Christmas trees, books, CDs, curtains, dishes, furniture, jewelry, bicycles, lawn furniture, magazines, picture frames, pots and pans, radios, rugs, shoes (all types), sporting goods, towels, toys and wall decorations.
Items not accepted include auto parts, computers, counter tops, doors, flammable liquids, microwave ovens, paint, scrap metal, TVs, upholstered furniture or screens.
