'Jazz in the Vineyard' returns to Bailly's

'Jazz in the Vineyard' returns to Bailly's

Enjoy some wine tasting, cheese and meat, and some locally-known jazz bands at the Alexis Bailly Vineyard on Sunday in July and August. The entertainment begins this Sunday, July 4 and continues through Sunday, Aug. 29.

The "Jazz in the Vineyard" kicks off from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. this Sunday, July 4, with "Gondwana, " which will also close the series Aug. 29.

The house band "Sounds as if (Thelonious) Monk is still alive," according to information on its web site. The group features saxophonist Max Ray, Rod Gordon on the piano, Larry Hennessey on drums, and Jerry Gorman on bass.

The July 11 band has not been determined.

"Ticket to Brasil" will headline Sunday, July 18. The music is bossa nova, Brazilian jazz and hot Samba. Guitarist Pavel Jany founded the international group. It has performed at a number of national and international events and opened for such artists as Karrin Allyson and Cibelle.

"Jonny and the Pembertones" will entertain Sunday, July 25. The sounds include jazz standards from the 40s to the present.

Rod Gordon and the 4M's perform Aug. 1.

Xibaba performs Aug. 8. Mira and Tom Kehoe has been performing throughout the United States and Brazil from small clubs to concert stages in a collaboration which includes jazz, world music, original compositions, theater and movement. The band plays Brazilian music for listening and dancing, including bossa nova, samba, baiao, forro.

Barbara Meyer comes to Bailly with Ray Gordon Aug. 15. She will be performing her all-time jazz favorites.

Five Story Igloo performs Aug. 22 . The group of five has its own take on American jazz, Latin American dance rhythms and Afro-pop headed by Kristen Froebel on the T-Bone.

The vineyard will be open for wine tasting. Guests can buy cheese, salami and brownies. They can sit and enjoy the music or dance along with it

The vineyard is located at 18200 Kirby Ave. Take Highway 61 south from Hastings to 170th Street. Turn right and drive to Kirby Ave. Turn left.
