Inmate kills himself at Dakota County Jail
The Dakota County Sheriff's Office is investigating the apparent suicide by hanging of an inmate in the Dakota County Jail.
The inmate has been identified as Raymond Ernest Cesmat, 42, South St. Paul. Cesmat was booked into the Dakota County Jail on July 10 on cause of probable cause first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a person under 13 years of age after his arrest by South St. Paul Police. On Wednesday, Cesmat was formally charged by the Dakota County Attorney's Office for that offense.
According to Sheriff Dave Bellows, Cesmat was discovered hanging by a correctional officer during routine rounds in the housing unit at 4:23 p.m. Friday. Life-saving efforts were immediately started but were unsuccessful.
Preliminary information indicates all jail procedures were followed. Bellows stated. An investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff's Office, the Dakota County Medical Examiner and by the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
