Several longtime and major manufacturers form the industrial backbone of Hastings, but the city is home to a wide variety of new and developing industries as well.

Smead Manufacturing Co. makes file folders and office supplies for a national and international market. The company has its headquarters in Hastings but operates several plants around the country.

Intek Plastics Inc. manufactures a vinyl component for windows and doors.

ConAgra, formerly Gardner, King Midas and Peavey mills, is located along the Vermillion River and is one of the oldest continuously operating mills in Minnesota. A mill has been operating on the site since the early 1850s. Part of the original mill can still be seen and is in use as office space.

Two industrial parks are located in the city. The smaller of the two is located on East 10th Street by Smead Manufacturing. The larger area is the Hastings Business Park at Spiral Boulevard and Highway 316.

Affordable land prices, a diverse and qualified labor force, and accessibility to the Twin Cities all make Hastings a very desirable location for business development. The city is only 20 minutes from the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport and is located at the junction of U.S. Highway 61 and state Highway 55, with access to major freeways nearby.

The Hastings Business and Industrial Park has 120 acres, of which about 40 acres could be sold today.
