Impressive Windows making impression: Hastings woman's work to be featured on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition
Jill Ragan Scully's grandma taught her how to sew when she was 8 years old. Ragan Scully used to make costumes for plays the kids in her neighborhood would put on. In high school, she made prom dresses and coats for her friends.
Today, Ragan Scully's love for sewing has led her to start her own business, Impressive Windows and Interiors.
Ragan Scully went to school for fashion design after high school, but decided it wasn't what she wanted to do with her life.
With her sewing background and creativity, which was only bolstered through her schooling, she decided that her professional future was in custom window treatments and interior accents such as pillows, throws, table runners, seat covers and bedding, among other things.
The basement of Ragan Scully's Hastings home serves as her office and work area. There's a huge, 10-foot-by-5-foot work table she can lay fabric out on when she's crafting new designs. She has a couple sewing machines, rolls upon rolls of thread and bolts of fabric, and literally an entire wall of fabric samples she can order in. She can also repurpose existing fabrics her clients may have in their homes.
Ragan Scully specializes in tying entire rooms together by using complementary fabrics on window treatments and accessories like pillows and throws. Her dining room, kitchen, living room and bedroom look like something out of an interior design magazine.
Ragan Scully's work got her selected to be one of the people who worked on the recent television program "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" house that was completed in West St. Paul. She did all the window treatments for the house and worked on "Ty Pennington's special room," a feature of the show where a surprise room is created.
