Identity of skeletal remains found along Vermillion River confirmed

The skeletal remains of a body found in Hastings on Jan. 15 have been identified.

The remains are those of Diane Kusick, a Hastings woman who was seen jumping into the Vermillion River in July 2011. Kusick was seen by several bystanders entering the river above the falls. She then went over the falls.

In January, her remains were found by an outdoorsman along the river.

The DNA of those remains was tested by the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and compared to her immediate family members. A match was confirmed Thursday.
