How to build a bridge in three years or less

Steve Kordosky, project manager for the new Hastings bridge and also a Hastings High School graduate, stated at the groundbreaking that he's confident the bridge will be completed by May 31, 2013. Here's a look at how they plan to meet that goal.

September 2010 - Pier work begins on the main span.

October 2010 - Pier and abutment work begins on the north approach.

January 2011 - Pre-construction and visual quality work complete.

April 2011 - Pier and abutment work begins on the south approach. Traffic re-routing near Second St. will continue through September.

June 2011 - Design work completed.

October 2011 - Span work begins on the south approach.

January 2012 - Main span floated in; span work begins on the north approach.

June 2012 - North loop opens to traffic.

July 2012 - Main span opens partially to traffic. Deck removal begins on the old bridge.

January 2013 - Demolition of the old bridge complete.

May 2013 - Work finished on south approach. New bridge fully opens to traffic.
