A house burned in the 1300 block of West 17th Street Monday morning. The Hastings Fire Department arrived at the scene at about 11:30 a.m.

The house, attached garage, a truck and a camper were all destroyed in the blaze.

Firefighters have not yet determined the origin of the fire, but it appears to have gotten into the attic and spread through the roof, said Fire and EMS Director Mike Schutt. Smoke from the fire was visible to responders from the scene of an earlier fire west of the city near Emerald Greens Golf Course.

Two dogs and a rabbit were saved from inside the structure. Nobody was home at the time of the fire.

As of 3:30 p.m., firefighters were still working to control hot spots.

Firefighters from Prescott, Cottage Grove and Miesville also assisted at the scene.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
