Highway 61 to be down to one lane just north of the river
Construction on the median between Highway 10 and the north side of the Mississippi River will reduce the highway to a single lane in each direction on Friday, April 11, beginning at 7 a.m.
The intersection at highways 61 and 10 will remain open and accessible. Construction work immediately south of the intersection may impact traffic flow.
All lanes are expected to reopen by 7 p.m. the same day.
Beginning Monday, April 14, the same area will be again reduced to a single lane in each direction until late May.
The median work is one of the final touches on the Highway 61 bridge project. Although the bridge is completely open to traffic, some tasks are still unfinished, including the median barrier north of the bridge, landscaping and the construction of a public plaza under the south end of the bridge. Additional parking for the downtown district is also planned under the bridge.
The entire project will be completely finished in July of this year.
