This project, from just south of Pine Bend Trail in Rosemount to west of Jacob Avenue in Nininger Township, is being done because of the deteriorating condition of the pavement, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) south area engineer Ken Johnson.

The first phase of the project will run from the intersection of County Road 85 (Goodwin Avenue) and County Road 42 (Mississippi Trail) to Jacob Avenue, near the city limits. Local access will be allowed from Horner Avenue and Jacob Avenue to the east end of Highway 55.

Drivers will follow the posted detour route during the closure: for eastbound Highway 55, the detour is Highway 52 south to Country Road 46, and east to Highway 61 north; and for westbound Highway 55, the detour is Highway 61 south to County Road 46, and west to Highway 52 north.

Highway 55 will remain open between Highway 52 and County Road 85 during the first phase of work, which is expected to continue to June 25.

The second phase will be from Pine Bend Trail to the west intersection of County Road 42 and Highway 55. The third phase of work will be from the west intersection of County Road 42 and Highway 55 to the east intersection of County Roads 42/85 and Highway 55. Start dates for these phases will be announced later this month.

In addition to the milling and overlay, this project will include the construction of right-turn lanes at some of the intersections, drainage and signing improvements, and the repair of the Highway 55 bridge over northbound Highway 52.

Another resurfacing project in the Hastings area is scheduled for Highway 316 from the north junction with Highway 61 to the south junction with Highway 61 (in Goodhue County).

The time frame for this $650,000 project is from about the end of June to the end of July. Johnson indicated that during "off-peak" hours of work, there would be flag people directing traffic through the area.
