"We can't understand this," said Morgan's father, Rich, of Hastings. "We've never had anything harder. We don't know how to deal with it, really."

Around 7:45 a.m. Sept. 17, Morgan buckled Zoe into a car seat, then put the car seat into a stroller and took off for a jog. She was training to be part of a roller derby. A Tartan High School student on his way to school apparently didn't see Morgan and Zoe because of glare from the rising sun, and his vehicle struck Morgan. It is believed she heard the vehicle at the last second, and then shoved the stroller out of the way to save Zoe.

Arianna Benson, who lives in the area of the crash, comforted Zoe while passersby and paramedics worked on Stacey.

That care meant a lot to the Tims family.

"Zoe was calm, and almost sleeping, I understand," Rich Tims said. "(Arianna's mother) was very proud of her for staying with (Zoe). I told (Arianna) she'd be a good mommy someday."

Morgan suffered a head injury in the crash and was transported to Regions Hospital, where she later died.

"She was a very energetic and loving person," Rich Tims said. "She loved her husband. She adored Zoe. She loved her sister and her niece and nephew."She was a special daughter. We miss her."

Morgan graduated from Hastings High School in 1994, and then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield. She graduated in 1998 and married Rick Morgan June 27, 1998. In 2000, they moved to Hawaii where Stacey earned her master's in social work and Rick earned his MBA.

They returned to the Twin Cities and settled in Oakdale about three years ago. Zoe was born June 9, 2009.

In late July, the family spent a few days relaxing at a lodge along the Gunflint Trail in northern Minnesota, just on the edge of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

"She said it was one of her best vacations," Rich said. "It was just because of family being together."

Morgan was a licensed social worker for CommonBond Communities. Rick Morgan works for the Department of Revenue. Morgan is survived by Rick; Zoe; her father, Rich; her mother, Glenda; and her sister, Monica.

The funeral was Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Minneapolis.
