HFC United's U11 soccer team, coached by Rick Carlson and Jim Boogren, has continued its playoff success. The team found a way to pull off two victories against tough division rivals in the East District Playoffs, beating St. Croix 2-1 July 14 and Hudson 3-2 July 17 to become district champions.

The game against Hudson was tied 2-2 after regulation and the team won it in an exciting shootout to go on to the regional playoffs. There, the team posted two more wins over St. Peter (4-0) and Mankato (6-2) to go onto the state tournament.

The team has accumulated a great number of fans along the way. The sidelines were filled with fans supporting the team as they played their first game of the state tournament and won 4-3 over a tough Golden Valley team. The coaches feel this success is especially impressive since the team is comprised of 10-year-olds playing at the U11 level.

"We knew we had a good group of kids and they have played hard all year. Let's keep it going," said coach Jim Boogren one game away from the state tournament.

The boys fell one game short of playing in the state championship by losing 3-1 this past Tuesday to an East Select team from the Duluth area. Hastings officially finished third in the state.
