Helen Gergen, 100

Helen A. Gergen, age 100, of Hastings, died Sept. 18, at the Regina Nursing Home.

Helen was born April 10, 1913, in Hampton, Minn., to Paul and Emma (Simon) Endres. She married Raymond F. Gergen on Sept. 1, 1937, at St. Mathias Catholic Church in Hampton. She was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church and was active in St. Therese & St. Marys Societies. Helen was a great homemaker and loved spending time with her family. She loved gardening, sewing, bingo and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Raymond; daughter Genevieve; son Jim; brothers Ambrose and Julius Endres; sisters Christine Schiller, Lucille Siebenaler, Martha Lorentz and Ethel Niebur; also grandson Michael Angell.

Helen is survived by her five daughters Mary Ellen (Fred) Angell of Hampton, Lorraine (Bill) Suchy of Millerville, Minn., Joann (Jerry) Bauer of Hastings, Lois (Bob) Kieffer of New Richmond, Wis., and Betty (Pete) Carpenter of Hastings; sons Ray (Elaine) Gergen and Leon (Nancy) Gergen, both of Hastings; and daughter-in-law Diane Gergen of Hastings; also 28 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren.

The funeral Mass, officiated by Fr. Stan Mader and Fr. Martin Siebenaler, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at St. Marys Catholic Church, New Trier. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, at Caturia-Smidt Funeral Home, 201 E. 7th St., Hastings and one hour prior to the mass at church. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.

Grandchildren pallbearers are Kathy Wanous, Kevin Suchy, Shari Wagner, Jason Gergen, Brenda Olson, Sheila Ostvig, Mark Carpenter, and Amy Fick.
