Hawks win consolation title in Cannon Falls

The Hastings Hawks amateur baseball team has a 9-6 overall record so far this season.

Hastings recently won the consolation championship at a tournament in Cannon Falls.

The Hawks came back to beat Rosemount, 18-17, and then Elko, 5-3, to win the title.

Hastings plays in the annual Dewey Tauer tournament this weekend in Red Wing and Miesville. The Hawks open play Thursday night against River Falls, Wis., at 7:30 p.m. in Red Wing.

Hastings is 4-3 in league play.

Cannon Falls tourney

Hastings lost to Eagan in the first round of the Cannon Falls tournament, 5-4. Mark Moriarty pitched for Hastings, allowing four earned runs over seven innings. He was relieved by Mark Landgrebe, who pitched the rest of the way.

Player/manager Deryk Marks had the big hit for Hastings, delivering a two-run homer. Jordy Horsch had three hits at the leadoff spot for the Hawks. Tyler Rohr had two hits and an RBI, too.

In the tournament's second game, Hastings won a wild one against Rosemount.

Nick Horsch got the start on the mound and was relieved by Tony Kaiser, then Drew Benson. Benson eventually earned the win.

Hastings took an 8-2 lead after two innings, but in the bottom of the third Rosemount tied the game with six runs.

By the top of the ninth, Rosemount led 16-15.

Hastings, though, rallied for three runs to go up 18-16. Rosemount added a run in the bottom of the ninth, but it wasn't enough to win.

The Hawks banged out 19 hits in the game.

Jordy Horsch had three hits and three runs. Tyler Rohr had two hits and a run. Colin Coan had two hits, two RBI and two runs. Drew Benson had four hits, three RBI and three runs.

Kaiser had one hit, three runs and an RBI.

Nick Horsch had two hits, three runs and three RBI.

Greg Campbell, Jr., had two hits, three RBI and two runs. Taylor Beattie had three hits and a run and Shawn Matson had a run.

Against Elko, Beau Jernberg pitched a complete game six-hitter, He allowed three earned runs and four walks. He struck out four and earned the win.

At the plate, Marks led the way with three hits and two runs. He had a pair of doubles.

Colin Coan had one hit, one RBI and one run.

Drew Benson had a two-run homer.

May 30

Mark Landgrebe earned the win on the mound for Hastings. He pitched seven innings, allowing six hits, one earned run and no walks. He struck out four.

Taylor Beattie pitched a third of an inning, then Nick Horsch finished off the game for Hastings, earning the save. He struck out two.

At the plate, Hastings was led by Steve Kraushaar and Colin Coan.

Kraushaar had two hits, two runs and an RBI. He had two doubles in the game.

Coan, meanwhile, had a two-run homer.
