Hawks fall at state tourney
The Hastings Hawks were eliminated Saturday at the state Class B amateur baseball tournament in Willmar.
Hastings lost to Dundas, 3-2.
The Dukes ended up advancing all the way to the state title game before falling to Shakopee.
Dundas took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning, then added to it in the seventh with another single run.
In the bottom of the eighth, though, Hastings rallied for two runs to tie the score.
David Vogelgesang started the inning with a single. Sam Ryan reached on an error and both eventually scored on a single by Steve Kraushaar.
Dundas scored an unearned run in the top of the ninth inning off relief pitcher Adam Barta to get the win.
Mark Moriarty was the starting pitcher for the Hawks. He threw seven innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs.
Vogelgesang led the Hawks in hitting at the regional and state tournaments, collecting 15 hits in 42 at-bats.
Barta threw 49 2/3 innings, striking out 40 and walking just nine.
Hastings finished with a 25-19 record on the season.
