Hastings youth catches two trophies in one trip

As the son of an avid outdoorsman, 11-year-old Aaron Steding of Hastings has caught more than his share of fish already.

But never has he had the kind of success like he had on a recent trip to Sturgeon Lake in Ontario, Canada.

Aaron caught a 43-inch long 19-pound northern pike while fishing with his father Matt and a family friend, Bob Swanson.

Matt Steding agreed to have the fish mounted for his son.

Later that same trip, Aaron Steding caught a 29-inch walleye, which was released.

Matt Steding made the same trip to Canada with his father Vic and Swanson for several years. After Vic Steding passed away, Matt Steding continued the trip. This was the first time Aaron went along, and after his success this year, it probably won't be the last.
