Hastings wrestlers wins another SEC title
The Hastings Raiders wrestling team took home their sixth straight SEC crown on Thursday with a 33-24 win over rival Forest Lake. The Raiders have a SEC record of 75-3 while winning seven of the 10 championships.
The dual consisted of 15 ranked wrestlers between the two schools with Hastings boasting 10. The ranked wrestlers for Hastings are; 103 Luke Rowh No. 7, 112 Isaac Bauer No. 8, 119 Corey Latuff No. 5, 125 Eric Bauer No. 3, 130 Keenan Menge No. 8, 140 Colten LaChance No. 2, 145 Zach Rohr No. 1, 152 Jeff Engstrom No. 6, 171 Jake Swenson No. 7, and 215 Isaac Eichmann No. 9.
The dual saw four matches showcase ranked wrestlers facing each other, with the teams splitting those matches.
Hastings' seventh-ranked Luke Rowh started the evening off for the Raiders with a third period pin of Luke McCord at 103 pounds. Next up for Hastings at 112 pounds was eighth-ranked Isaac Bauer against fifth-ranked Michael Pleski. Forest Lake's Pleski used three takedowns to give the Rangers their first team points of the night with an 8-3 decision to bring the dual score to 6-3 in favor of the Raiders.
Fifth-ranked Corey Latuff squared off against third-ranked Tyler Isaacson at 119 pounds. Isaacson's first period takedown proved to be the deciding factor in his 4-1 decision over Latuff. With the team score tied at 6, third-ranked Eric Bauer scored a 14-1 major decision over Tony Smith to put Hastings in front 10-6 after 125 pounds.
At 130 pounds, the Raiders gave Dan Marquette the opportunity to wrestle Forest Lake's second-ranked Ben Morgan. Marquette limited Morgan to a first period takedown before succumbing to a second period pin, giving the Rangers their first and only lead of the night at 12-10.
Newly eighth-ranked Keenan Menge scored a 5-3 decision over Ryder Paggen giving the Raiders a 13-12 lead in the dual after 135 pounds.
In the 140 pound match, second-ranked Colten LaChance claimed a 23-8 technical fall over tenth-ranked Austin Boniface, followed by Hastings' Jake Anderson taking advantage of a third period takedown to score a 3-1 decision at 145 pounds, making the score 21-12 Hastings.
Sixth-ranked Jeff Engstrom added to the score with a first period pin of Isaac Florell to push the Raiders lead to 27-12 after 152 pounds.
At 160 pounds, Hastings Jake Rachuy lost a seesaw 12-10 decision in overtime to Mike Urban. Seventh-ranked Jake Swenson scored a 6-2 decision over 10th-ranked Lance Benick at 171 pounds to give the Raiders a 30-15 lead.
The Raiders' Josh Lohmann lost a tough match against Joe Joyer, giving the Rangers some hope in the dual. That hope quickly faded when ninth-ranked Isaac Eichmann clinched the dual with a 5-2 decision over Jake Toupal to put the dual out of reach at 33-21 going into the final match.
In the final match of the dual, Hastings' Jake Anderson lost on a late takedown in the third period to Jeremy McLaughlin ending the dual at 33-24.

The wrestling team competes in the team sections Friday, Feb. 18, at Apple Valley. Matches are at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.
JV team finishes season with six champions
The Hastings Raiders JV wrestling team concluded their season on Saturday at the JV conference tournament. Hastings entered 15 wrestlers into the tournament with 12 finishing in the top three. The Raiders claimed six champions, three runner-ups, and three third place finishers.
The six champions were; 119B Bill Norris, 125 Jake Spitzack, 140 Jake Anderson, 152 Alex Nygaard, 171 Andy Rachuy, and 189 Cody Wagner. Runner up finishers for the Raiders were; 119A Danny Gove, 130 Jesse Fisher, and 215 Josh Kickbush. Wrestlers coming back to win third place were; 112 Spencer Connell, 152 Tony Lodermeier, and 160 Louie Wright.
