The Hastings wrestling team earned a nice win in the opening round of the state tournament on Thursday morning at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.

Hastings beat Willmar, 42-21, in the quarterfinal round of the meet.

That meant Hastings advanced to the state semifinals against Apple Valley, the state's No. 1 team. The Raiders lost to the Eagles, 65-3.

Hastings lost in the third-place match to St. Michael-Albertville, 30-25. STMA was the No. 2 seed in the tournament.  Hastings was No. 4.
