Wins were tough to come by this past week for the Hastings 16U VFW baseball team. The team continued their pattern of being on both sides of lopsided performances.

The lone win for Hastings this past week came against the Highland Park Scots in a contest that took place at Vets Park. Hastings won the game with an impressive final score of fifteen to three. The game was much closer than the scoreboard indicated as the matchup proved to be a bit of a rollercoaster ride.

“We were up, down, then up, again the whole game,” coach Aaron Stoneberg said. “It was great that in the end we were able to pull this one out like that.”

The commanding win was credited to Tucker Tilleraas as he came in, and kept Highland Park guessing all night in what was only his second time on the mound this season.

“He got the win, and it was big for us because we have been lacking in the number of arms we’ve had all year,”

Stoneberg said. The bats showed up in a big way for the Raiders as well with six batters having two or more RBIs. Alex Judge and Jake Miller both notched two hits on two at bats.

Hastings was on the losing end of their other three games last week to West St. Paul, Lake Elmo and Tartan. In the Tartan loss there was a bright spot in the dissatisfying defeat as young catcher Jake Dale caught the eyes of his coaching staff.

“Jake had a nice hit for us, and played great in the field,” Stoneberg said. “He is playing very well versus future varsity opponents.”

Hastings lost their other two games this past week with scores of 12-1 to Lake Elmo, and 18-0 to West St. Paul. The Raiders will look to rally back this upcoming week, as they will be in action three more times.Hastings VFW team struggles
