Hastings Tastings: Annual fundraiser is a record-setter
Hastings residents ate well to help others March 4, and they did it in a record-setting way.
Because Hastings Tastings is held within Minnesota FoodShare Month, March to April 6, all proceeds receive a proportionate match from MN FoodShare and the Feinstein $1 Million Dollar Challenge to Fight Hunger.
About 425 guests enjoyed menu specialties from 16 restaurants. Hastings Family Service extends a thank you to the restaurants for participating — it is because of their support that the event is so successful.
“The guests could tell the restaurants were going for the win this year and really brought their best dishes to share,” said Kelsey Matula, Hastings Tastings coordinator. “The food was fantastic.”
The People’s Choice Award Winners are: Best Overall, The Hastings Country Club 3 Rivers Grille; Best Entrée, The Onion Grille; Best Dessert, Emily’s Bakery and Deli; and Best Appetizer, Spiral Natural Foods Co-op.
Hastings Family Service also extended its appreciation to the food establishments who provided gift cards for the restaurant raffle, to HFS board members for donating wine, and to MGM Liquors for donating the 99 bottles of beer. The raffle winners were Janel Behrends, 99 Bottles of Beer, and Ted Amundson, Wall of Wine.
Participating food establishments this year were American Legion Post 47, Bierstube, Candy Creations by Kelly, Coborn’s, Cub Foods, Dunn Bros, Emily’s Bakery and Deli, Green Mill, Hastings Co-Op Creamery (milk), 3 Rivers Grille at Hastings Country Club, Onion Grille, Papa Murphy’s, Perkins Family Restaurant, River Oaks Golf Course, Rivertown Cakes, Spiral Natural Foods Co-op and Treasure Island Resort and Casino.
As part of MN FoodShare Month, Hastings Family Service is promoting “Be a Change Agent for Hunger”
At Hastings Tastings, “Change” Agent donation jars were handed out and guests were encouraged to collect loose change and dollars throughout MN FoodShare month. Donation jars are still available at HFS. The goal for FoodShare Month is $165,000 and 25,000 pounds of food donated. All donations receive the proportionate match.
