Hastings places fourth at SEC swimming relays

The Hastings boys swimming team had its first meet of the season on Thursday, Dec. 6. The team competed at the annual Suburban East Conference relays.

Hastings placed fourth out of the 10 teams with 88 points. Stillwater won the meet with 120. Mounds View finished with 112 and East Ridge had 98.

The SEC regular season is scheduled to begin Thursday, Dec. 13, with a home meet against White Bear Lake. The meet starts at 6 p.m.

Results from the meet went like this:

400 medley relay - team of Brandon Underwood, Hunter Sassor, Colby Smith and Thomas Everson, second, 3:46.71.

200 freestyle relay - team of John Utecht, Elijah Reilly, Cole Scully and Hayden Schmitt, fourth, 1:38.12; team of Jack Weldon, Christopher Benson, John Rupp and Victor Lindgren, 14th, 2:01.68.

4x100 IM relay - team of Jack VanZee, Cole Tipler, Sassor and Colby Smith, first, 4:01.11; team of Cal Gergen, Erik Christensen, Scott Christensen and Aaron McCullough, 12th, 4:42.84.

Diving - Hastings, 10th, 105.45.

200 butterfly relay - team of Schmitt, Reilly, Utecht and Colby Smith, first, 1:43.26; team of Weldon, Patrick Clark, Benson and Gergen, 15th, 2:03.73.

850 crescendo relay - team of Weldon, Reilly, VanZee and Everson, third, 8:21.63; team of Carter Williams, Scully, McCullough and Stephen Smith, 12th, 9:14.45.

200 backstroke relay - team of Victor Lindgren, Rupp, Erik Christensen and Benson, 13th, 2:22.43.

200 breaststroke relay - team of Evan Reilly, Clark, Ethan Kimmes and Michael Everson, seventh, 2:25.20.

400 freestyle relay - team of Thomas Everson, VanZee, Cole Tipler and Brandon Underwood, fourth, 3:29.59; team of Kenneth Benson, Scott Christensen, Erik Christenson and Carter Williams, 13th, 4:06.82.

Chad Richardson is the news director for RiverTown Multimedia. He was the publisher of four RiverTown publications until 2016, when he was named news director. He was previously general manager of the Farmington Independent and Rosemount Town Pages from 2000 to 2007. He worked at the Hastings Star Gazette from 1996 to 2000 as a photographer and reporter. He also worked as a photographer and writer at the Pope County Tribune in Glenwood.
