Hastings Music Festival is Sept. 15

The fourth annual Hastings Music Festival is planned for 1:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, near the public boat launch here.

The headliner this year is Rocket Club, a six-member Twin Cities band led by vocalist Chris Hawkey. Hawkey is well known as a member of the morning show on radio station KFAN.

The event raises money for Hastings Family Service. More than $30,000 has been raised for HFS during the previous three events.

In addition, Fergie Frederiksen, a former lead singer for Toto, and Kevin Chalfant, a former lead singer with Journey, will each play.

Frederiksen will front a band that plays an hour of Toto music.

Chalfant will front the same band, and they will play an hour of Journey music.

The Midlife Cryslers, Brooke Ellis and the New Creation Band will also play during the day.

Tickets are $7 in advance and will be available at Cub Foods, Terry's Hardware and Hastings Family Service. They will also be available at

Silent auction items and donations are sought. They can be dropped off with Gordy Pearson at Farmer's Insurance, located at 1640 South Frontage Road in Hastings.

Chad Richardson is the news director for RiverTown Multimedia. He was the publisher of four RiverTown publications until 2016, when he was named news director. He was previously general manager of the Farmington Independent and Rosemount Town Pages from 2000 to 2007. He worked at the Hastings Star Gazette from 1996 to 2000 as a photographer and reporter. He also worked as a photographer and writer at the Pope County Tribune in Glenwood.
