Jeff Platson knows his mushrooms, and apparently he knows where to go in Hastings to find some big ones.

Over the weekend, while on a walk with his dog, Platson found a 12-inch wide puffball mushroom near the walking trail by Smead Manufacturing Co.

Platson said he plans to eat the mushroom.

Platson said the year has been a good one for mushroom hunting, including this spring when he found some 20 pounds of morels in the woods.
