Hastings man, on duty with the St. Paul Police Department, shot while on duty

A Hastings resident was shot while on duty as a St. Paul Police Officer on Tuesday.

The officer was reportedly in stable condition. He had surgery Wednesday.

He is Daniel King, who has worked for the St. Paul Police Department for more than 10 years.

At around 11 p.m., St. Paul police officers were called to a home on the report of a theft.

At about 11:30 p.m., two officers saw a man that matched the description of the suspect. After officers stopped, the man opened fire.

The incident occurred at 720 Payne Avenue in St. Paul.

The suspect was fatally shot by officers.
