According to the criminal complaint, the female was walking to a St. Catherine College building near the park. She was approached by a stranger. He first asked her for money, then grabbed her by the arm, claiming to have a gun.

He then took the female onto a trail in a wooded area and took her cash, her backpack, wallet and financial cards. He then forcibly attacked her, according to the complaint. He also struck her in the face. He grabbed her backpack and said she had to go with him to an ATM to get money.

She fled the area and was able to get help from other people nearby.

On Nov. 27, a suspicious male was detained at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. The male had approached women in the parking ramp asking for jumper cables for his car. Hospital security went to the area of the ramp where the main said his car was, but could not find it.

A Ramsey County deputy who was assisting hospital security identified the man as Oliver. The deputy had seen a sketch of the suspect in the Nov. 19 assault.

Oliver was taken into custody. A photographic lineup containing Oliver's photo was shown to the victim and she positively identified Oliver as her assailant.

Oliver denied he was involved in the attack, saying he was at work. In checking with Oliver's employer, police learned he had not reported to work the day of the attack.

Oliver is currently being housed in the Hennepin County Jail. A background check of Oliver indicated he is a registered sex offender.

Conviction on a criminal sexual duct in the first degree charge carries a sentence of up to 30 years in prison and/or a fine of between $12,000 to $40,000.
