Hastings jumps up to 2nd in SEC with 9-5 record

The Hastings Raiders are now the No. 2 team in the Suburban East Conference standings.

On Tuesday night, Hastings moved up with a 5-1 win over Roseville.

Cretin-Derham Hall leads the league with a 10-3 record. Hastings is 9-5 on the season, Mounds View is 8-3-2 and Roseville is 7-5-2.

Hastings got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first period.

At 2:30, Andrew Bussey scored on the power play, assisted by Mark Huneke and Jake Caneff.

Just two minutes later, Zach Mellick scored, assisted by Huneke and Bussey.

Roseville countered with a goal at 7:55, but Hastings added a score at 12:05 to go up 3-1. It was scored by Mellick, assisted by Matt Koch and Caneff.

After a scoreless second period, Hastings opened the scoring at 2:04 of the third period. Bussey scored, assisted by Mellick.

The final goal of the night came at 7:22 from Huneke, assisted by Mellick.

Mellick finished with two goals and two assists on the night.

Matt Radke played in goal for Hastings and made 26 saves on 27 shots.

Hastings had 39 shots on goal.

Vs East Ridge

Hastings lost to East Ridge on Saturday, 5-4.

After the Raptors opened the scoring, Hastings countered with a goal by Mellick, assisted by Huneke and Caneff, to close out the first-period scoring.

In the second period, East Ridge took a 3-1 before Hastings countered at 9:45 on a goal by Joe Shingledecker, assisted by Colin Shoen.

The Raptors added another goal to take a 4-2 lead.

In the third period, East Ridge scored again to go up 5-2.

Hastings got goals at 12:50 by Huneke and 16:09 by Bussey to make the game close, but it wasn't enough. Mellick assisted on both goals.

Radke played in goal and made 22 saves on 27 shots.

Hastings had 32 shots on goal.

Vs WBL

Hastings beat White Bear Lake on Thursday night, 3-2.

Blake Berg gave Hastings a 1-0 lead at 4:04 of the first period. He was assisted by Koch.

The Bears added a goal at 8:59 to make it 1-1 heading into the first intermission.

In the second period, Hastings got two goals to take a 3-1 lead. Huneke scored just 50 seconds into the period, assisted by Mellick.

Koch added a power play goal at 2:48, assisted by Caneff and Bussey.

Radke earned the win, making 16 saves on 18 shots.

Hastings had 16 shots on goal.
