Hastings goes 1-2 at St. Cloud tennis tourney
The Hastings tennis team went 1-2 at a weekend tournament in St. Cloud.
The Raiders lost to St. Cloud Tech, 6-1, and to Bloomington Jefferson, 7-0. They beat Minneapolis South, 5-2.
In the win over South, Hastings swept doubles.
The No. 1 team of Carson Whyle and Killian Konrady cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win.
The second team of Alex Rudh and Rob Troje won 6-3, 6-3.
The third team of Brad Risch and Cole Pottinger won 6-3, 7-5.
In singles action, Austin Houska lost at the first spot and Craig Nielsen fell at second singles.
Wins were turned in at No. 3 by Danny Steiner (6-1, 6-2) and by Ben Klimek at the fourth spot (6-1, 6-1).
“We played competitive doubles, especially when we committed to moving to the net at the right times,” coach Mick Willette wrote. “We need to anticipate hitting at their feet and reading when we have the advantage, and move to the net.”
The lone Hastings win against St. Cloud Tech came at first doubles, when Houska and Steiner teamed up to win 6-2, 6-4.
The second doubles team had a close match, falling 6-3, 6-4. That team was made up of Whyle and Rudh.
The third team also lost a close one, falling in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The team was comprised of Rudh and Pottinger.
Hastings beat Owatonna, 4-3, in a tournament held in Owatonna.
Austin Houska won at first singles, 6-1, 6-1.
Steve Roach lost 6-4, 6-0, at second singles.
Ben Klimek won at third singles, 6-3, 6-4.
Rob Troje lost 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Danny Steiner and Alex Zuzek won 6-2, 6-2.
Craig Nielsen and Carson Whyle won at second doubles, 6-2, 7-5.
Killian Konrady and Alec Rudh lost at third doubles, 6-0, 7-6.
Hastings lost to Lakeville South in the next round, 7-0.
Hastings lost to Northfield, 4-3, on April 21.
Steiner won at third singles.
In doubles, Nielsen and Zuzek won at first doubles, 6-4, 6-4.
Konrady and Whyle won at second doubles, 3-6, 6-1, 7-6.
Hastings beat Roseville on April 22, 4-3.
Nielsen won at second singles, 5-7, 6-3, 6-0.
Steiner won at fourth singles, 6-2, 6-0.
In doubles, Konrady and Whyle won at the second spot.
Troje and Rudh won at third doubles, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4.
