Hastings girls hockey team now ranked No. 14
A 4-1 record so far this season has propelled the Hastings girls hockey team into the state's top 15 teams. The Raiders are now ranked No. 14 in Class AA.
"That's great for the girls," Hastings coach Jeff Corkish said. "They deserve it. They've worked really hard. Any recognition they get is fun for them to see and read about."
One of those wins came Friday in a Suburban East Conference game against Cretin-Derham Hall. Hastings won 4-1.
"Overall, our kids played hard and they did the little things we asked them to do," Corkish said. "They adjusted well during the game and they were putting the puck on the net. They're trusting their shot more and some of those are starting to go in."
Hastings got two goals from Hannah Simons, who has already scored seven goals through five games.
"She's not somebody people notice too much, but she's one of those kids who is always in the right place at the right time," Corkish said. "She's determined to get better. She's producing right now and that's been great for us."
Mackenzie Klimek and Brittney Huneke also had goals for Hastings.
Assists were made by Danielle Duffy, Kaitlin Stark and Huneke.
Stef Wical played in goal for Hastings and got the win.
