Hastings Bridge to a Cure plans kickoff May 4 at Green Mill
The planning is under way for the 16th annual Hastings Bridge to a Cure, and interested people can form their teams now.
The annual walk to fight cancer and provide advocacy, education and services for cancer victims and their families will be held Friday, Aug. 6, at Hastings High School. Last year, more than 41 teams raised $88,000 - $1 million has been raised in the 15 years of the event.
Team registration for this year's event, "A World with Less Cancer is a World with More Birthdays," will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Green Mill Restaurant. Team captains should bring their completed registration forms (team member names, phone numbers and T-shirt sizes) along with a $100 registration fee per team ( up to 15 members).
During the kickoff event, Inver Grove Toyota will sponsor a "Ride and Drive." The dealership will have four of its most popular vehicles available for the "Ride and Drive" and will contribute $20 per test driver to the Bridge to the Cure event and the American Cancer Society.
This is an opportunity for Bridge to a Cure teammates, friends, and family to help support cancer research, services, education, and advocacy by driving a Toyota of choice without leaving Hastings.
As part of the kick off, a birthday cake will be enjoyed - to celebrate cancer survivors.
Corporate sponsors and local businesses provide the supporting foundation for Hastings Bridge to a Cure. Their contributions allow all funds raised by teams to go directly to the American Cancer Society for cancer research, services, education, and advocacy. So far, six businesses have contributed to the event - Smead Manufacturing Co., North American Bank, Allina Medical Clinic-Hastings and Prescott, Miller Orthodontics, Lewis, Kisch & Associates, and Dakota County Abstract & Title. Waste Management, djay Sound and Light, and Graphic Design are donating their services for the event.
Any businesses or individuals interested in helping underwrite this event should contact Laura Leak at 651-283-9649.
The annual event will be held from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Aug. 6, rain or shine. The event is open to the community. Djay Sound and Light will provide music throughout the evening as team members and others walk along a luminary-edged path. Children participate in fun activities early in the evening, and food and beverages are available at the concession stand.
