Hastings boys place fourth at Wild Mountain, girls place fifth
The Hastings boys Alpine ski team placed fourth at a Suburban East Conference meet on Tuesday at Wild Mountain.
Hastings had four skiers in the top 30, paving the way for the strong finish.
The Raiders finished with 606 points. Stillwater won the meet with 721. Forest Lake was second (696) and Mounds View was third (632).
Adam Peine led Hastings with a fifth-place finish. He had a time of 32.79 seconds on his first run and a time of 33.78 on his second for a combined time of 1:06.57. The winner, Nik Damberg of Mounds View, had a time of 59.97.
Stephen O'Connor took 16th in 1:09.09; Joe Wright was 29th in 1:16.58; Jake Gartzke finished 30th in 1:17.47; Will Caturia was 36th in 1:19.82; Sam McKinny took 42nd in 1:21.36; Thomas Goonan finished 43rd in 1:21.67; Nate Strauss took 44th in 1:21.94 and Chris Erickson was 58th in 1:33.93.
John Schmitz also raced for Hastings.
The boys junior varsity team was led by Jacob Peine, who was eighth in 1:34.91.
Also racing were: Hayden Niebur, 11th, 1:39.26; Derek Iwasko, 18th; Jack Caturia, 19th; Jake Molitor, 20th; Josh Juelfs, 36th; and Ryan Endres, 37th.
The girls placed fifth at the meet with 415 points.
Mounds View won the meet with 798 points and Forest Lake was second with 751.

Danika Truax, Gabriella Sorg and Katie Roach also competed for Hastings.
For the girls junior varsity team, Kayla Boogren took fifth (1:08.50), Logan Doty took 14th (1:27.82) and Josephine Pechous took 20th (1:38.40).
Hastings will compete Friday at the annual Welch Village Invitational, one of the largest Alpine ski meets in the country.
It is the 38th annual invite.
The first run begins at 9:45 a.m.
The second run begins at noon.
