Hastings boys hockey breaks out of slump, scores eight in win

The Hastings boys hockey team earned a nice Suburban East Conference win on Thursday, Jan. 30, 8-3.

Hastings fell behind at 3:31 of the first period, but just 14 seconds later, the Raiders tied it. Scoring for Hastings was Jacob Cooper, assisted by Blake Berg and Colin Shoen.

Shoen then scored at 6:37 and Berg scored at 7:06 to give Hastings a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. Berg was assisted by Mark Huneke and Andy Neuman.

In the second period, Hastings scored goals at 6:55 and 11:11 to go up 5-1.

Berg scored, assisted by Shoen and Cooper, and Austin Houska scored, assisted by Ryan Tix.

In the third period, Hastings got goals from Neuman, Huneke and Matt Flynn. Assists were made by Huneke (2), Tucker Piotrowski, Flynn and Mike Junker.

Tyler Woyke played in goal for Hastings and made 23 saves on 26 shots.

Hastings had 39 shots on goal in the game.

The Raiders are now 9-12-2 on the season.

Vs WBL

Hastings lost to White Bear Lake on Tuesday, Feb. 4, 9-1.

White Bear Lake scored five first-period goals. They added three more in the second period and led 8-0 heading into the third period. The Bears added another goal at 4:05 of the third to lead 9-0.

Ben Klimek got Hastings on the scoreboard at 16:47 of the third period. He was assisted by Danny Steiner.

White Bear had 29 shots on goal.

Matt Radke and Tyler Woyke split time in net for the Raiders. Radke started and played 14:18 and gave up four goals on 10 shots.

Woyke played 36:42 and gave up five goals on 19 shots.

Vs Roseville

Hastings lost to Roseville on Saturday, 4-1.

Roseville took a 1-0 lead in the first period.

In the second period, Hastings tied it 1-1 on a goal by Ryan Tix, assisted by Austin Houska and Sam Otto.

In the third, Roseville scored three unanswered goals in eight minutes to pull away and win. All three were even-strength goals. Radke played in goal and made 24 saves on 28 shots.
