Hastings baseball teams earn state championships
Two Hastings baseball teams left the Minnesota Baseball Tournaments held this July with state champion titles. The U11A Hastings Raiders fifth grade baseball team participated in the MBT championships in Chanhassen on July 11-13 with the help of coaches Chuck Schiller and Tony Kaiser.
After defeating teams from surrounding areas such as the New Prague Trojans, the Mankato Royals and the Chanhassen Storm, the Hastings Raiders U11A team became state champions. The U15AA Hastings Raiders ninth grade baseball team, coached by Rich Erredge, Ryan Harris and Mike Schlottman, won their state championship July 18-20 in Eagan. Other teams participating in the U15AA MBT State Tournament against the Hastings Raiders were the Cottage Grove Wolfpack, the Burnsville Gold and the St. Louis Park Orioles.
The three games played to decide the pools for the tournaments were on Friday and Saturday, and the Raiders ended them 3-0. Bracket play began on Saturday night, and the Raiders defeated the Gold 4-2. Sunday’s games brought a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Bison, a 4-2 win over the Orioles and finally a triumphant 6-3 win over the Wolfpack for the champion title.
The Hastings Youth Athletic Association U11A and U15A teams have both improved in their standings from last year.
