Happiness Emporium is at OSEL on July 17
An internationally-known barbershop quartet, Happiness Emporium, with gospel music as its expertise will be in Hastings Sunday, July 17. The Happiness Emporium will lead the worship services at 9:15 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. at Our Saviour's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 400 W. Ninth St.
The Happiness Emporium was formed in December, 1972, and immediately the group sounded like a winner. In its first year and a half the quartet won four contests and placed in the Top 10 in international competition.
The members of the quartet have a combined total of more than 125 years of quartet experience. They have sung with seven district champion quartets, and have sung for barbershop chapters all over America, Canada, England, Sweden and Ireland. Two of the members have toured Pacific military hospitals on USO tours with their previous quartets. In October 2003, they led their second tour to Ireland, where the Happiness Emporium was the featured quartet of the Irish International Barbershop Convention in Dublin.
In 2000, the Happiness Emporium recorded their first all-gospel album, "Beneath the Cross." This was followed in 2004 with the release of another all-gospel album, "Beneath the Cross II."
In addition, the quartet took over the Good News! gospel quartet program following the retirement of three of the founders; Jerry Fairchild, Joe Mazzone and Dale Deiser.
The service is open to the community.
