Hampton Cardinals eliminated after loss to St. Martin
The Hampton Cardinals lost in the second round of the state amateur baseball tournament. The Cardinals fell to St. Martin, 8-0. The loss ends the season for the Cardinals.
St. Martin scored a run in the top of the first on a solo home run. In the fourth inning, they added two, and in the fifth, they put up five runs to pull away.
Hampton had four hits and four errors in the game.
St. Martin pitcher Brad Mergen was the winner. He struck out 14 Hampton batters.
Josh Simen was the Hampton pitcher of record.
The Cardinals players are excited about the 2010 season, according to manager Joe Larson. He said the team won a bet with Marlin Reinardy and will get a new outfield fence at their ballpark in Hampton.
