Hampton Cardinals advance in Class C tournament
The Hampton Cardinals won their first game in the Minnesota state amateur baseball tournament last week, beating Fort Ripley, 1-0, to advance in the tournament
Hampton scored the game's only run in the top of the seventh inning.
Ryan Giefer singled and was replaced on the base paths by pinch-runner Keegan Bryne.
Joe Robinson singled Bryne to third, and Bryne scored on a throwing error at third base.
Duane Slinde pitched six innings and earned the win for Hampton. Corey Lorenzen threw the final three frames and earned the save.
Giefer finished with two hits. Also recording hits for Hampton were Alex Harrington, Robinson and Nick Stark.
Hampton will face St. Martin at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gaylord in the quarterfinal round.
Should the Cardinals win, they'll play again at 11 a.m. Sunday.
St. Martin advanced in the tournament by beating Bertha, 4-2, on Sunday.
