Golf girls began section tourney play on Wednesday

The season is quickly winding down for the Hastings girls golf team. On Wednesday, the Raiders opened play in the section tournament at Phalen Golf Course in St. Paul.

If any of the Raider girls advance to the second round, they will play at Bunker Hills on Friday, May 31.

Hastings closed out the regular season with the Suburban East Conference championships at Oak Glen in Stillwater on Thursday. Hastings placed seventh out of 10 teams. East Ridge won the meet.

"The girls started out the season really strong and struggled with different aspects of their games the last few matches, which dropped us down to seventh," coach Becky Hartung said. "The key to being a top team in a competitive conference is consistency and trying to keep all scores in the mid 40's. The team has been practicing, working hard on all aspects of their golf game in preparation for sections."

On May 16, Hastings placed eighth at a conference match at Tanner's Brook, hosted by Forest Lake.

Izzy Karbo had a 45 to lead the way. Lauren Mattmiller had a 48, Maddie Bauer a 49 and Sadie Karbo a 50 to close out the scoring. Sara Pevonka (51) and Caitlyn Judge (55) also played on varsity for the Raiders.

On May 20, Hastings played in an SEC tournament at the Hastings Country Club. The meet was played in two nine-hole tournaments.

On the front nine, Hastings placed eighth. Sadie Karbo had a 46, Issy Karbo a 57, Caitlyn Judge a 51 and Haley Jo Kimmen a 53. Maddie Bauer finished with a 60.

On the back nine, Izzy Karbo, Kimmen and Bauer each had 50s. Judge and Sadie Karbo had 55s.
