Girls hockey team falls in section semis, 3-2

A great season for the Hastings girls hockey team came to an end Saturday night in Inver Grove Heights.

Hastings lost in the semifinal round of the section tournament to No. 1 seeded Rosemount, 3-2.

The game went into overtime after the Raiders were able to tie the score 2-2 in the third period.

But, at 2:54 of overtime, Rosemount scored the game-winner and the Irish advanced to the section finals.

Hastings was the No. 4 seeded team.

Josie Stepan scored the first Hastings goal, assisted by Courtney Boucher and Simons. Her power play goal at 2:10 of the first gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead.

Rosemount countered with two goals in the first period to take a 2-1 lead.

After a scoreless second period, Hastings tied the score at 14:23 of the third period thanks to a power play goal by Sami Claussen, assisted by Danielle Duffy.

Stef Wical made 18 saves for Hastings.

Opening round

Hastings beat Eagan in the opening round of the section tournament, 3-0.

After two scoreless periods, Brittney Huneke scored the game's first goal at 1:45 of the third period, assisted by Boucher and Natalie Simons. Huneke scored again at 5:18, assisted by Simons again.

At 6:57, Boucher scored, assisted by Huneke.

Wical made 31 saves.
