Get to the expo in Woodbury for free fun on April 16

Last weekend, the first Hastings Family Expo was held at Schoolhouse Square. From the sound of it, it was a good first effort, and everyone here is hoping the event takes off.

One nearby community, Woodbury, has an expo that the Hastings organizers are likely striving to equal. The annual Woodbury Community Expo is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at the Bielenberg Sports Center, 4125 Radio Drive in Woodbury.

It's an enormous expo and, best of all, it is free.

Here's a list of some of the activities:

• Balloon sculptors will give away their handiwork to kids;

• A special Home Depot-sponsored kid's project is planned. Last year, kids built bird houses;

• There are dancing groups, singing groups and jugglers;

• There are arcade games;

• Vehicles from the Woodbury Police Department and the Woodbury Fire Department will be on hand, and each department has activities planned;

• Face painting will be done, and kids looking to have something wild done with their hair will get that wish to come true, too;

• A jumping tent will be inflated;

• Representatives from the Raptor Center will be on hand, too.

Raffle prizes are planned.
