Gal Pal Soiree is July 17 in Hastings
The Hastings Tourism Bureau has teamed up with local businesses to give ladies one night a month July through October (specifically third Thursdays) an appreciation for their friendships and take advantage of bargains around town.
The Gal Pal Soiree, a social event designed to showcase Hastings businesses and attractions can start as early as 3 p.m.
A matching grant from Explore Minnesota Department of Tourism helps market this continual event guided by the Hastings Tourism Bureau. Volunteers from the bureau, including Pam Thorsen, are enthused by the opportunity to reach this fun market, they said.
The event inspires browsing through town enjoying treats and specials at participating businesses and ends at a local restaurant at 8 p.m. This month, The Busted Nut will host. There will be drink specials and deals on appetizers and door prizes from local businesses and entertainment. This month’s event, set for July 17, features a juggler and magician. The tour can begin at Meloy Park Florist, 1210 Vermillion St., or any participating business. Maps and coupons will be available at the businesses, which will be marked with pink balloons. Custom shopping bags and tickets for a drawing at the end of the night will also be provided with a purchase at any participating business.
There will be discounts on products and service at each location. A local wine tasting is planned at MGM Liquor and the LeDuc Historic Estate will showcase entries into its Modern Interpretations of Historic Designs contest. A complete schedule of specials and events will be available at participating businesses on the day of the event or online at www.hastingsmn.org.
Another opportunity for women to earn a prize will be through the photo contest. Women can submit pictures of themselves wearing their Hastings sunglasses (which are a gift from Sterling Drug) via email to the Hastings Area Chamber of Commerce. Each month, the Tourism Bureau will choose a winner to receive a local gift certificate and will post the winning photo to its Gal Pal page, Thorsen said.
One of the goals of the Gal Pal Soiree is to not only get Hastings women involved, but to also bring new visitors from elsewhere. Local lodging will offer specials for Gal Pal participants and group tours can be arranged for times other than the third Thursdays.
This is the first year that the Hastings Tourism Bureau has offered the Gal Pal Soiree.
