Fox shoots another 83 at state golf meet
Day two of the state golf tournament sure resembled Day one of the state golf tournament for Max Fox of Hastings.
The HHS junior shot an 83 on Tuesday.
Fox then shot an 83 on Wednesday.
Both rounds were at Bunker Hills.
"He scrambled, and he made some great par saves," HHS coach Pete McGinnis said. "He just had trouble getting it going, putting together two good shots in a row.
"He still struggled with the putter."
Fox was playing his best golf of the season heading into the state tournament. He shot a 69, for example, in the first round of the section tournament.
"He was striking the ball well off the tee at sections," McGinnis said. "(During the state tournament) his course management was good. He had the right ideas. He just didn't hit it to the spots he needed to. I don't think he felt comfortable off the tee, either."
Fox will be among the favorites to return to the state meet next year.
"I expect him to be ranked pretty high," McGinnis said. "He's going to be one of the top golfers in the state next year.
"We're excited about him coming back, and we're excited about all the kids we have coming back again next year."
