Former Dakota County employee charged with theft
A former Dakota County employee, Aleathea McWilliams, 52, has been charged with theft (over $5,000) and possession of stolen property (valued between $1,000 and $5,000), both felonies. She allegedly stole funds and bus passes from Dakota County while she was employed as a case aid in Dakota County Social Services.
She had been employed with the county since 2002 and resigned last May.
The Social Services office contacted the Dakota County Sheriff's Office after it became aware of what appeared to be missing public funds and bus passes. Her job duties included processing payments for Social Services clients and overseeing the distribution of bus passes to clients. According to the complaint, McWilliams falsified documents for the purpose of paying her personal bills. It is alleged that $25,511.88 of personal bills were paid with public funds. More than $2,700 worth of bus passes were located in her residence and purse when searched by investigators.
Her first court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. March 21.
