The first week of March resulted in $13,299 and 4,766 pounds of food donated to Hastings Family Service.

"It is a great start" says Amy Sutton, Resource Development Director "but we have a long way to go to reach our goal of $140,000 and 20,000 pounds of food."

March is a critical month for Hastings Family Service because all donations receive a proportionate match from Minnesota FoodShare and the Alan Feinstein Foundation. The support received in March helps Hastings Family Service keep the food shelf stocked through the spring and into the summer months when more children are served because school is out. Children make up 43 percent of those served by the food shelf. Donations of food and cash can be brought to the new HFS Donation Center across from the Post Office.

For more information, go to www.hastingsfamilyservice.org. There are also ideas on how you, your family or workplace can get involved, and mark your calendars for Hastings Tastings on March 26.

All proceeds benefit HFS and qualify for the matching funds. Purchase your Hastings Tastings tickets at the new donation center and your $30 ticket purchase can be used to buy up to 250 pounds of food from Second Harvest Heartland, feeding a family of five for more than a week.

Clothes Closet is closed

The Clothes Closet is temporarily closed during the renovations at the Hastings Family Service building, 301 Second St. E. The store plans to reopen by the first part of May.

All programs and services are available during the renovation, and all food, clothing, household and monetary donations can be brought to the new HFS Donation Center, 301 Second St. E.
