First Rivertown Days Glow Run was a big success

The first Rivertown Days Glow Run was held Thursday night at the Hastings YMCA.

About 180 runners took part in the 8K race and many more competed in the 2K family run/walk.

The 8K winner was James Sorenson of Minneapolis, who finished the course in 27 minutes and 40 seconds, a pace of 5:34 per mile.

Francisco Ramirez of Calabasas, Calif., was second in 29:31. The top Hastings finisher was Neil Albares, who was fourth in 29:58. Also placing in the top 20 from Hastings were:

Kyle Gudmunson, sixth, 30:23; Evan Pengelly, seventh, 30:50; Pete Bernardy, 30:59; Bobby Verchota, ninth, 31:09; Laura Roach, 31:36; Daniel Williams, 13th, 33:10; Christian Weiland, 14th, 33:21; Jason Loeffler, 17th, 34:11; Robyn Bernardy, 18th, 34:59; Sam Shepherd, 19th, 35:03; and Joe Rowan, 20th, 35:10.

The event was orchestrated by the YMCA and the United Way of Hastings.

Chad Richardson is the news director for RiverTown Multimedia. He was the publisher of four RiverTown publications until 2016, when he was named news director. He was previously general manager of the Farmington Independent and Rosemount Town Pages from 2000 to 2007. He worked at the Hastings Star Gazette from 1996 to 2000 as a photographer and reporter. He also worked as a photographer and writer at the Pope County Tribune in Glenwood.
