On Nov. 4, First National Bank will likely get the approval it needs to begin work on a reconstruction project.

The bank plans to replace the existing drive-through location at the corner of Pleasant Drive and North Frontage Road with a building about three times larger.

The Hastings Planning Commission reviewed the plans Monday evening and sent a unanimous recommendation for approval on to the city council, which will review the plans Nov. 4.

The existing building was built in 1978 and is 1,100 square feet. It is a full-service branch, offering drive-up service, walk-in teller service and account services. The bank is proposing to demolish that structure and build a new, 4,350 square foot building in its place. The new site plan includes 19 parking spots and landscaping to shield the lot from adjacent streets.

The proposed building will be constructed out of brick and will include a drive-through. The site plan proposes two driveways, one on North Frontage Road and one on Pleasant Drive.

The expansion is one that First National Bank has talked about for several years, said Branch President Chad Collignon. The building is in need of replacement, and the new structure will help the bank further serve its customers at that location.

Currently there are no plans to make any changes to the Second Street location, Collignon said. Business there will continue as usual.

During demolition and construction, bank operations will continue at the site, thanks to a temporary, secure trailer. Once bank operations have moved into the temporary unit, crews will begin demolition of the existing building. Collignon said he expects that work to begin in the coming weeks. The new building is expected to be finished about six to eight months later.

First National Bank is one of Hastings’ oldest business. It was first established in downtown Hastings in 1856 and is the second oldest bank in Minnesota, Collignon said.

With the expansion along North Frontage Road, the bank is looking forward to further investment and commitment to serving Hastings.
