Firefighters plan annual booya for Sunday, Sept. 8

The Hastings Fire Department Relief Association’s 73rd annual booya will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Booya will be available for purchase and can also be enjoyed inside. No glass containers will be filled. Other food will be available to purchase.

Prizes in the annual drawing are $1,000 cash donated by the Hastings Fire Department Relief Association; a 42-inch flat panel HDTV from Hastings Walmart; ¼ hind beef from Duff’s Meats 2; deluxe casino overnight stay with buffet from Treasure Island Resort and Casino; DeWalt tools with case from Doug Speedling Builders; eight all-day passes to Nickelodeon Universe at Mall of America from KDWA Radio; whirlpool suite from Hastings Inn and Suites; Weedeater or blower from Niebur Tractor and Implement; two $100 gift certificates from Cub Foods; and one $100 gift certificate from Coborn’s Superstore. Drawing tickets are available from Hastings firefighters and are also available at the fire station.

Door prizes will be presented throughout the day.

Chad Richardson is the news director for RiverTown Multimedia. He was the publisher of four RiverTown publications until 2016, when he was named news director. He was previously general manager of the Farmington Independent and Rosemount Town Pages from 2000 to 2007. He worked at the Hastings Star Gazette from 1996 to 2000 as a photographer and reporter. He also worked as a photographer and writer at the Pope County Tribune in Glenwood.
