Fire department hosting training on Mississippi Tuesday-Thursday
The commotion people may notice over the next couple of days on the Mississippi River in Hastings is a training operation being hosted by the Hastings Fire Department and is nothing to be alarmed about.
Employees of Marathon Petroleum, Flint Hills Resources, the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Pinnacle Engineering and others are learning about spill containment and mitigation on bodies of water. It may look like there are actual emergency operations going on during the trainings, but the fire department is assuring residents there's nothing to worry about.
The trainings began at the Hastings fire station Tuesday morning and moved onto the river near the public boat launch in Jaycee Park Tuesday afternoon. The trainings will continue on the river from about 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, June 24 and 25.
