Fire and accident report for the week ending Dec. 31
Monday, Dec. 24
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of 15th and Walnut streets at 7:51 p.m. One driver failed to stop and yield and was struck by an oncoming vehicle. A 16-year-old Red Wing driver was cited for failure to yield. No one was injured.
Wednesday, Dec. 26
A driver reported after the fact that he had been hit by a female driver while backing into his driveway in the 1600 block of Tierney Drive. The two drivers had exchanged information, but the woman's insurance had expired. The woman told police she had been trying to avoid some ice, but hit a patch, fishtailed and was unable to stop before hitting the man's pickup. She said she had just found out her insurance had expired. Cited for driving with no insurance was Nicole Stokes, 26, Hastings.
Thursday, Dec. 27
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of Red Wing Boulevard and Vermillion Street at 12:53 p.m. After stopping in the left turn lane on Vermillion Street to turn onto Red Wing Boulevard, one driver failed to yield and pulled out in front of an oncoming vehicle. No one was injured.
Police responded to a report of a car off the road in the area of Grove Street and Nininger Road. Police located Sharon Hamilton, 43, Hastings, who said she had been headed westbound on Nininger Road when she slid off the road due to slippery conditions. The vehicle was towed and Hamilton was cited for driving without a Minnesota driver's license.
Friday, Dec. 28
Two vehicles collided at the intersection of North Frontage Road and Pleasant Drive at 3:05 p.m. Neither driver saw the other. No one was injured.
A vehicle struck a telephone line pedestal and left the scene. The driver later reported the incident to police and said he had been unable to stop at the stop sign, slid through the intersection and struck the pedestal. His car wasn't damaged and he had to get to work, so he left. The pedestal was heavily damaged and the driver was advised that he should never leave the scene of a crash where damage has been done.
Two vehicles crashed in the 600 block of Pleasant Drive at 9:09 p.m. Both were northbound on Pleasant when one vehicle slowed down and moved to the right. The driver behind her said he thought she was going to stop and park, so moved to the center of the road to pass. She abruptly turned left, though, and he was unable to avoid hitting her.
Saturday, Dec. 29
Firefighter/paramedics responded to a crash at the intersection of highways 10 and 61 at 1:04 a.m. and extricated a victim from a vehicle. No further information was available.
Monday, Dec. 31
Firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire in the 100 block of East 17th Street at 3:35 a.m. The engine of a GMC Sierra caught on fire at a business there. The cause of the fire was undetermined. Firefighters extinguished the fire. Losses were estimated at $25,000.
