Felony domestic assault is charged
The Dakota County Sheriff's Office has filed charges of domestic assault by strangulation, interfering with an emergency call and domestic assault against Robert Eric Swanson, no permanent address, in connection with an incident Nov. 14 in Hampton Township. According to the criminal complaint, deputies were called to a residence on the report of an assault. When they arrived at the scene, a female resident said she had been involved in a verbal argument with Swanson and the physical assault followed. She said that, at one point, Swanson began squeezing her neck as she attempted to call for help. He took the phone from her.
As this was allegedly happening, a witness came into the room, told Swanson to let the victim go, and convinced him to give the phone back. The victim immediately called 911 for assistance. Swanson fled the residence.
Swanson was eventually located. He told the deputies that he and the victim did get into an argument. He said that she had hit him, and he had hit her back. He denied choking her.
