Felony assault is charged
The Dakota County Sheriff's Office has charged 19-year-old Isaac Lynn Matos Mulhern of Hastings with one felony count of assault in the second degree, one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation and two misdemeanor charges of domestic assault in connection with a Feb. 13 incident at a residence in Ravenna Township.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies were called to the residence on the report of a domestic assault. When they arrived, they were met by a woman who said that Mulhern was drunk and began pushing her. At one point he grabbed a knife and began waving it at her. He strangled her with her shirt and then with his hands. Two witnesses observed parts of the incident and said they agreed with her assessment.
When deputies talked to Mulhern, he said he and the victim were arguing because he had been drinking. Initially, he only admitted grabbing the victim by her shirt. He denied any use of the knife. When asked why the woman had red marks around her neck area, Mulhern responded, "probably from me grabbing her throat."
